Beirut Designers’ Week 2nd Edition: Incredibly successful despite challenges!

Beirut, May 15th, 2014: GATA Events & Promotions s.a.r.l. has flagged yet another staggering success with the closing of their landmark exhibition Beirut Designers’ Week this past Monday, May 12th, 2014 at Zaitunay Bay.
Held in its second edition from Friday 9th till Monday 12th of May 2014, Beirut Designers’ Week attracted more than 45,000 Lebanese, Arab and foreign visitors during four design-packed days. Despite a turbulent political and security-related situation in Lebanon at the beginning of the year and a last-minute stormy weather, the event counted an increase in its exhibitors’ number by 15%, to reach more than 80 designers in total, in addition to receiving an incredible feedback from hundreds of local, regional and international media outlets, racing to cover its news before and during the exhibition.
The echoes were once again overwhelming! Partners, sponsors, visitors and restaurants’ owners were all stunned by the spectacular flow of people rushing to sneak a peek at this year’s latest collections of prêt-à-porter, sportswear, signature lingerie, gold and fashion jewelry, fashion accessories, beach wear, footwear, bags, design furniture, home accessories and more.
From the exhibitors’ end, results were especially gratifying, as they enjoyed extensive media coverage, a widespread public exposure, and record-breaking sales, leading them to register themselves and their brands to the next edition of Beirut Designers’ Week, no questions asked.
With such positive feedback, the event turns from a trendy annual rendezvous to a full-fledged platform, trusted by hundreds of fashion, jewelry, accessories, and furniture designers to launch their brands and make their first steps into the world of fame. Earning the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism this year, the event also gains further economic importance, being a magnet for both, Arab and foreign residents and tourists; not to mention its economic value as participating designers are creating job opportunities and supporting the Lebanese industrial sector by outsourcing talented Lebanese craftsmen and local workshops to execute their designs.
Beirut Designers’ Week was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and in partnership with Beirut Waterfront Development SARL. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was headed by the Minister of Tourism Mr. Michel Pharaon, assisted by the founder of GATA Events & Promotions s.a.r.l. Mrs. Sandra Ghattas Ferzli, former Minister and political advisor to President Sleiman Mr. Nazem El Khoury, Chairman and General Manager of Beirut Waterfront Development s.a.l. Mr. Kamal Farouk and world-famed Lebanese fashion designer Tony Ward, who toured the exhibition to meet the designers and get introduced to their creations. The opening ceremony was preceded by another important event, dubbed “Lebanese Women for a Better Lebanon”, which brought together first-rank women such as the Minister of the Displaced Judge Alice Chabtini El Am, PM Gilberte Zouein, former Minister Mona Afeiche, the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Lebanon Angelina Eichhorst, the Indian Ambassador to Lebanon Anita Nayar, the Columbian Ambassador to Lebanon Georgina Mallat, and the Ambassador Mira Daher of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, in addition to prominent women of the Lebanese society, economy, media and diplomacy.
The event highlighted the role of Lebanese women in the country’s growth, emphasizing their ability to steer the economic wheel by launching their privately owned labels. The gathering also featured a fashion show, uncovering the latest fashion, jewelry, and accessories’ trends for the Spring-Summer 2014 season by 15 of the exhibition’s designers.
Beirut Designers’ Week 2014 was sponsored by Bank Audi, Mondanité, Radio One, Executive Magazine, LBC International and Veuve Clicquot.
